OK! Magazine To Launch In Nigeria

British weekly celebrity magazine OK!, might be making its way to Nigeria very soon as its set to launch its best selling magazine in Lagos and Abuja.

OK! the best selling celebrity gossip magazine which was first published in 1993, over the years has become very popular and has spread to 20 countries including America, Australia, China, Ireland, Russia, Mexico, Spain and the Middle East.

Following a tip-off last month, of on-going discussions about starting a Nigerian franchise of the magazine, NET kicked off an investigation that brought forth interesting details about the venture. Our reporters have gathered, exclusively, that OK! will begin publishing in Nigeria from July 2011. And the brain behind this is none other than UK-based entrepreneur, Alexander Amosu. An insider on Amosu’s team has disclosed to NET that a press conference will be held this month to announce OK!’s launch in the country.

Amosu, sources say, is already sourcing funding and corporate partnership, as he gets set to kick off Nigeria’s biggest celeb weekly.

It remains uncertain whether OK! Nigeria will parade a 100% local content, or aggregate content from different OK! titles from around the world.

A source on the team tells us work is on-going concerning staff and equipment, and the management have already set up a temporary home on the internet. (www.oknigeria.com).

Amosu, who launched his ‘World most expensive suit’ in Nigeria, 2009, did not directly respond to our enquiry. But a spokesperson for him, Alfonso Maroni tells us, in a email correspondence ‘We will be doing a press conference at the end of this month or early march to announce OK! Magazine. We would like to invite you to this conference. We do not want to mention it for now until the press conference‘.

OK! UK is yet to disclose or release any statement concerning this development. And two separate mails to them, were neither acknowledged nor replied.
