2Face’s Plot to Rebrand Nigerian Music
‘Dayo Farore

Adetokunbo Ademola Street witnessed a large assembly of cars and crowd as the popular R&B singer, Innocent ‘2Face’ Idibia throws an album launch party for the International edition of his new album, ‘The Unstoppable,’ at Tribeca in Victoria Island on Friday May 21, 2010. An event scheduled to be wrapped up at The Place in Ikeja G.R.A later in the day.
At 11:40pm, guests were still pouring in and are being entertained from plasma TVs at the bar and in the V.I.P section.
11:42pm witnessed 2Face’s new video, ‘Only Me, ‘an impressive work piece from Clarence A. Peters. Being one of the two videos that came with the CD being sold at the venue for N1,000. He takes another shot at corruption and self-centredness on this one.
2Face stepped forward at 11:46pm to do his thing at the Bar section, standing between the two plasma TVs.
He dropped to our listening pleasure, ‘Raindrops,’ a track from his new album at 11:48pm. Speaking on the controversies in the press about his life and women, throwing punches at the people he claimed are gossipers and have nothing else wrong about him except his interesting line-up of baby-mamas. Not forgetting to advice the youths to be careful how they use their ‘thing.’
Mr. Idibia doesn’t seem too pleased with the sound blaring back at him from his performance, so he called off the Raindrops track at 11:50pm, dropped his champagne glass and asked the DJ to adjust the mic. But he re-sang the song acapella.
11:52pm got an all-round laugh as 2Face made a gesture with his ‘thing’ (you ought to know what I’m talking about), trying to warn guys about sleeping around perhaps with lot(s) of women.
11:53pm started off with, ‘implication,’ and cuts off to call a lady on stage and sang her, ‘African Queen.’
11:45pm experienced some romance as Bayo Omisore shocked the crowd, kneeling for the girl whom 2Face was performing African Queen proposing for her hand in marriage. She said ‘yes,’ with a kiss and the couple in the making rocked to African Queen before vacating the floor with flashes from paparazzi lenses. What a WOW way to propose?
